Cancelled and postponed swimrun races 2020 – ÖtillÖ

As corona hits the world hard, a lot of swimrun races are struggling to find ways to bring us all joy. However, the circumstances are very challenging, so keep  in mind that this situation might very well apply for the remainder of 2020.

Countries have different temporary rules and regulations in place so make sure you check them out before deciding upon a plan. A good question to ask yourself before travelling is this:

Can I live with the idea of having to seek treatment at the designated location, and will treatment be available for me?

For Europe, the best way to get an overlook is to check out the European Commission website:

For the ÖtillÖ world championship , these new specific rules apply (text from the organisers’ announcement)

As we will lose the qualification spots from Hvar, Utö and the Isles of Scilly – in total 6 in each category – these will all be moved to ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin 2020.

This means that we in Engadin will distribute a total of 24 spots, being 8 in each category.

“To keep the selection process for ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship 2020 going we have asked the teams invited to guarantee their spot by paying the entry fee. As a measure to alleviate the financial risk for these racers we have promised 95% refund on their entry fees if we do not host the event due to Covid -19.”

Refunding options.

For the rest of the races different refund rules apply. At first, a 75% refund was mentioned, but then removed and now it states that “If you cannot participate on the new date, you get 50% off on any race in 2020 in the same category.” Consequently, make sure to check what rules apply to your specific race (and country).” [end of quote]

We hope this dreadful situation is over soon and if you want to train, have a read on this study on how to position yourself when running with other people, to reduce the risk of being infected with corona.
